Two Sides Are Better Than One

Well the State of the Union address is over for another year.  President Obama gave a very straight forward speech (except for that awful joke) and had the right mix of prose, posturing and poetic imagery we have grown to expect from him.  It’s interesting to hear the bills he thinks will help the economy, and it’s even kinda of fun to watch him take congress to the woodshed – but for the most part – the same problem that got us into this gridlock was apparent in the speech throughout.  There was no “working together”,  no bi-partisan committee thinking about how we can change politics, in fact, nothing to indicate he wasn’t running the world by himself anyway.

He kept saying things about bills HE passed, Laws HE would sign, deals HE would make with the states.  He’s not working with either side really – and so it’s hard to swallow his “clear up the breakdown in communication”  when even he can’t see the larger picture of a congressional body in the face of swift, sure and fearless change. It’s going to take parties working together, not harping at each other to get change to happen.

  1. So true. But how does one deal with a Congress whose number one goal is to make sure he doesn’t get re-elected? They are not working with him when whatever idea he has that lands on their desk they reject.

    • Here’s how you do it, when some jackass yells “You lie!” during your speech, you grab the speaker’s gavel, go down there and bash his skull until his (alleged) brains are all over the floor. Then you walk calmly back the podium and pick up where you left off.

If only America allowed Canadians to become President, not just Kenyans, that’s the kind of President I’d be.
